Hi Mary-Louise,

There seem to be an abundance of George JEFFERY's. However on Ancestry there

is a tree with George born Cookbury, 16 Nov 1800, no source given, married
to Elizabeth DAVEY and a son Josiah born 1825. No mention of Daniel but
Josiah marries Ann ROWLAND so it would appear to be the right family but
there is nothing in there that convinces me it is the right George but
nothing to say it isn't either.

Using the 1800 birth with a ten year range I find in 1851 a "family" of
George JEFFRY born Cookbury, 1801, farmer of 142 acres, with a servant
Elizabeth HAML?YN (33) and 3 children George (8), Mary (5) and Grace (2) all

surnamed JEFFRY (that might be JEFFRYS) living in Black Torrington.

In 1861 George JEFFERY born Cookbury 1803, farmer of 30 (maybe 50 or 56)
acres, with a servant Elizabeth HAMYLN (40), and 3 children George, servant,

18; Grace, servant, 12 and Ellen, servant, 14 (in that order) all called ...

Jeffery HAMYLN living in Thornbury.

In 1841 there are 8 George's that are possible, some with a stretch, but
there is one living in Cookbury which would seem the most likely, living on
his own seemingly, but a bit difficult to tell, born 1806, a farmer.

In 1866 there is a probate of George JEFFERY, farmer, to Elizabeth HAMLEY.

That all fits together provided that the George who was the father of Josiah

and Daniel is the George born in Cookbury in 1800ish.

Presuming that to be correct could Elizabeth Davey/Jeffery possibly be
Elizabeth HAMLYN/HAMLEY? Or did the first Elizabeth die or did George run
off with another woman?

I have just checked back with the tree I found to make sure there was no
mention of the second Elizabeth and found the mother of your George was Ann
HAMLYN. Interesting! I am not sure whether cousins could marry then and that

could explain things but it is a bit of a leap in the dark.
