Thanks for checking into this. I had seen her post on the web but I'm afraid
that Mrs. Varnadoe probably got her information from the same family
information I did and a lot of that information has proven to be faulty for
me recently. The email address she had listed no longer works and I have
been unsuccessful in reaching her so I can't ask her to find out where she
got her information.
I had always thought he was born in Devon but then found him in the 1880
census for Bayou La Batre, Mobile, AL, saying his birthplace was AL! This
really threw me for a loop and I am now verifying the information I have by
looking for an index or copy of a baptism/birth record for him to give me
concrete proof of his birth and relationship to John Henry Rhodes.
I have a lot of information on John Henry Rhodes & Barbara Clay families but
have not been able to find any of their children listed which also seemed
odd. Maybe someone on the list knows more about them. The Rhodes family and
their relatives had a deep history in Devon County and I'm hoping someone
can help.
