I could only find Athanasius on the Deanery of Tavistock cd - no other Hooper baptism with parents Thomas and Mary:

14 Apr 1838 Athanasius Broad HOOPER son of Thomas Henry and Mary HOOPER, Brook St Tavistock, father's occupation Labourer.

There is a possible marriage for Thomas Henry indexed on Freebmd Tavistock Dec 1837.  Two Marys are listed: Mary KENT and Mary WILLIAMS.  I see that on the 1841 census the Hoopers are in the same household as several WILLIAMS so my money is on Mary Williams but you need the certificate to be sure.

Is this Thomas Henry and Mary in Tavistock on the 1861 census? (see www.freecen.org.uk).  Athanasius isn't with them and I can't locate him.

Piece RG9/1460 Tavistock enumeration district 10 address Bannawell Street, Tavistock
Thomas H Hooper age 49 birthplace Tavistock, ag lab
Mary age 48, birthplace Tavistock
Philip age 19 birthplace Tavistock, mason's labourer
Mary age 16 birthplace Tavistock
Emmanuel 12 birthplace Tavistock
John age 8 birthplace Tavistock

Regards,

Joy

Hi List,
Am trying to find out if the above has any siblings.

I have him on various census, though on 1871 he is down as Arthur, with
first wife Grace Waldron Penrose, & son John William aged 5.Later census he
uses his original name.

On 1841 he is with his parents Thomas & Mary Hooper in West Street
Tavistock.

I cannot find any mention of him or them on 1851 or 1861, where I  had hoped
to find siblings too.
Any help would be a big bonus, Thanking you in anticipation.
Jackie from East Sussex.

p.s What a marvellous name , I have never heard of it before.

The only way to look into the future,
Is by standing on the shoulders of the past.
