Subject: [DEV] Ships leaving Kingswear?
Date: Fri, 19 Mar 2010 23:11:37 +0000
For many years I've been trying to discover how a great grandfather got from his home town of Dartmouth to South Africa in the 14 month time period between his marriage in Nov 1882 at St Petrox church, and the birth of his firstborn in Feb 1884 in South AFrica.
I assumed he would need to take a ship from the well-known ports, probably Southampton, but recently discovered that Kingswear - across the Dart River from Dartmouth - was a waiting place (The Royal Dart Hotel) for passengers waiting to travel to South Africa. I am presuming that passengers embarked at Kingswear and wonder if anyone knows of passenger lists/ships from this port?
I've looked at The Ships List but a search with 'Kingswear' reveals no records at all.
Any ideas?
