Hi, has anyone come across a non-registration of a birth ? this birth is known to have been 2nd July 1887 , where is unknown. Cecil Metcalfe Roberts, a non-runner in the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census . He married in St Peter`s , Eastbourne in 1918, aged 30, described as a soldier, of the boarding house where he and his fiancee were living , shock horror, and the son of Edward Cecil Roberts, cashier . The witnesses to the wedding were the bride`s sister and the b/h keeper .
In 1954 at the marriage of his 30 yrs old daughter at the Congregational church , Southend , he is described as Chief Engineer , Merchant Navy , retd, and presumably of the same address as his dau in Leigh on Sea .
So far I have got three likely Cecil Roberts birth certs and all have been the wrong ones . My next thought is that perhaps he is registered as Male Roberts, and there is one such in the Sept 1/4 of 1887 in Festiniog . Nor can I find him in the Overseas./Regimental lists of births .
I cannot find him for sure in the WW1 pension records, nor medal rolls .
The Devon connection before anyone asks is that his daughter married into the Wills family of Torquay , thanks Terry , and Roy Parkhouse for the very helpful Topsham information .
Has anyone found a non-registered baby and if so what was the solution ? the London Gazette does not record a change of name ? to Metcalfe Roberts or Roberts .
life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=///
