Hi Bev
Not so funny really as Sainthill must have been his forename and probably
was the surname of his mother. There are many SAINTHILLs (sometimes SENTHILL
or ST HILL) in those parts of East Devon especially an early prominent
Royalist family of Bradninch. From the IGI, Sainthill CAREW married an
Elizabeth CORDING 10 August 1734 at Bickleigh which is near Tiverton and,
according to White's 1850, "Bickleigh anciently belonged to a family of its
own name, and passed from the Courtenays to a younger branch of the Carews."

I have both SAINTHILL and CORDING in my early families and they seem to have
originated in Wiveliscombe and Exton just over the border in Somerset.
