Hi Anne, There is no sign of a Mary Marshall burial in Torquay.
I can confirm that a MARSHALL William married REASON Elizabeth on 30 April
1837 at St Marychurch.

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF THE WREFORD FAMILY OF EXETER?

My ROBERT WREFORD was baptised 1750 at Morchard Bishop, son of JOHN WREFORD
and SARAH (nee WILSON). Although the Wreford family can be traced back
several generations at Morchard Bishop, this particular branch left Morchard
Bishop soon after Robert's birth. Initially they went to Stockleigh English
where various of Robert's siblings were baptised.

On 26th September 1786, Robert Wreford married HANNAH HARRIS at Exeter- St
John, both were described as of St John parish. I have only been able to
trace baptisms of 2 children, MARY WREFORD bap Feb. 1790 and WILLIAM WREFORD
bap.Jan 1792, both at St Mary Major, Exeter.

In Exeter Robert Wreford was a victualler. In 1791 he bought the Cornish
Chough and the Fleur de Luce from Sophia de Vial.
In a 1791 Directory he is described of Guinea Street, Exeter.

In his will he left his estate (which also mentioned property in St Paul's)
to his widow. Robert Wreford died in 1793 and his widow shortly remarried
WILLIAM ELLIS, another victualler. They had several children and accrued an
estate valed under £2000.

William Wreford bap 1792 was provided for well by his family. In 1828 he
married ANN BODLEY of the Exeter ironfoundary family and in 1841 they are at
Exeter Customs Quay. William Wreford was a collector of customs, later
stationed at Fowey in Cornwall. He died in 1881.

MARY WREFORD b1790 was never mentioned either in her fathers will (1793) or
the marriage settlement document of her mother to William Harris (1794) or
in the will of her mother (1823). Already well into pregnancy, Mary Wreford
married on 20th August 1815 at Exeter, St Mary Major to WILLIAM MARSHALL, a
cabinet maker. They had 2 children baptised at St Mary Major but then I
loose Mary. I can't find a burial record, although I know her husband
remarried in 1837 in a town now referred to as Torquay.

Do the names WREFORD, HARRIS, ELLIS, MARSHALL of Exeter ring any bells
anywhere ?

Anne
