Subject: [DEV] Where are the centres of Plymouth, Exeter, Dartmouth, and Teignmouth?
Date: Tue, 22 Jan 2008 16:19:10 +0000
Here is another question related to the Devon section of the GENUKI Gazetteer.
I'm seeking to provide accurate grid references (six decimal digits)
for whatever are defined as or generally agreed to be the *centres*
of Plymouth, Exeter, Dartmouth, and Teignmouth.
The locations of the relevant parish churches are used in the
Gazetteer as the centres of their parishes, but in the case of
multi-parish towns and cities it is not so evident what would be the
appropriate location to use, at least not to me, given how far I live
For fear that this question will raise controversies, due to local
sensitivities of which I am currently blissfully unaware, and so
spawn lots of rival suggestions and heated arguments, I urge that all
answers be sent to me directly rather than to the mailing list. I'll
forward any particularly useful or authoritative (or funny but
on-topic:-) replies to the list.
