Sue,
Found your James & Jenny marriage and three children:
>From the CD "Deanery of 3 Towns" published by the Devon FHS:
JAMES SIMPSON = JENNY AVENT ALGER
Plymouth Charles Church 11-11-1804
(I wonder if it really should be 1814? (The original marriage register
would confirm this tho I realise your priority is Jenny's maiden name).
Here's why:
Children baptized in Stoke Damerel Church: James' occupation is Shipwright
and Jenny Avent shown as the mother - so we have the right couple).
Jane: 29-12-1815
Edwin: 04-05-1817. Birthdate given: 14 Dec. 1816
George: 19-07-1821. Birthdate given 6 July 1821. (He of course appears on
the 1841 Census).
Could be that they did marry as early as 1804 and that the children died -
but there's no evidence in the Burial list at either Plymouth Charles or
Stoke Dam.
Lastly, these three females could be Jenny's sisters All married within
few years of each other.
Plymouth Charles marriages:
MARY COSENS ALGER = HENRY GLYNN 25-08-1814
ANN ALGER = WILLIAM RICKARD 01-08-1816
ELIZABETH ALGER = RICHARD WORTH 11-02-1819
(No occupations given for husbands)
Only found one baptism for the three above couples
Plymouth Charles:
RICHARD PICTON GLYNN. Father Henry's occupation: Gent. Residing at White
Cross Street. 07-07-1815.
Hope this helps.

Can anyone help with a marriage probably in Stoke Damerel? I am trying to
find out who James SIMPSON married, the 1841 census gives his age as 50 and
that of his wife Jane. He is dead by 1851. I have had it suggested that
his wife was really called Jenny, but she is still Jane in 1851.
Sue
