However - Heathrow to Exeter will take you long enough (3 hours

Have been on some of the routes you suggest, but cannot recall if there are
roundabouts or not? (Probably are.) If so, would the Australian visitors be
familar with them? They can be a challange for those who don't know about
them.
Can't recall either, which side Australians drive (I should know!), but if
it is the opposite to the UK, I'd suggest putting an Australian sticker of
some sort (like those you'd put on car bumpers/back windows etc), so folk
will know you are not familar with the area(s) and/or driving on the left.
First time back to the UK, after a 19y absence, English hubby was rather
nervous, as he'd driven in Can. longer than the UK. Naturally other drivers
had no idea .. when he hesitated etc .. The next time, we put a Canadian
Red Maple Leaf (like our flag) sticker in the back window (not actually
'glued', just tucked into window's edge, but very visible) and it was
surprising how many people gave way, stopped to ask if we needed assistance,
smiled etc etc. Made driving on the opposite side less nerve wracking,
especially on some of the country roads in Devon & Cornwall. Locals know
which ones ... single lanes with hedgerows!! Have made sure we put the
sticker up each time we return, always with very positive results.
