Hi, the IGI has a birth for a JOHN JAGO, CHRISTENED 10 FEBRUARY 1782, MAKER, CORNWALL. Parents ROBERT JAGO AND MARY.
There's also a marriage for a ROBERT JAGO AND MARY HENDER 3 DECEMBER 1776, MAKER, who could be his parents.
There are 37 Jago entries in the 1841 Cornwall census, so the previous point about it being a Cornish name certainly sounds right!
My own family originated in the Maker area (Millbrook, Antony , Torpoint, etc.) and because they went across the river Tamar to work in the Docks at Devonport they produce marriages and births in Stoke Damerel, Devonport , East Stonehouse and Plymouth, as well as Maker and St Germans, so it's always worth checking Cornwall and Devon.
Regards, Linda in Long Eaton.
