Does anybody share any connections with the Russell family from Sidmouth? I
ask as my father's maternal line from Ottery St Mary have a link. My great
aunt even asked for my parents to include in my younger brother's given
names "Russell" to indicate this link. She said that these Russells were
famous but I have no idea why and so far my researches have not proved
anything either. The great aunt died ages ago.

Is any Lister researching this family?

George SANDERS of East Budleigh, Miller, was married at Branscombe
29 Aug 1791, by licence, to Jane or Jenny LEIGH, nee PRATT, widow of
my GGGG-uncle John LEIGH Jnr, of Hayne in Ottery St Mary parish.

I'd like to know what happened to John & Jane's children. As they
were Non-conformists, the baptisms are not all traceable, but when
John died in 1788 he was said to have left 5 children, and two
others, John and Ann, had predeceased him.

The Sidmouth Old Meeting (Dissenters) records the birth/baptisms of
three children of John & Jenny:
Richard 1776, Mary 1779, and Sarah 1782.

It's likely that as John died at the age of 30 his children were also
sickly, and none may have survived. (It looks as if John's six
siblings all died before they were 40). But I'd be interested to know
if any of them took their stepfather's name, and what became of them.

Thank you!
