Thankyou everyone for the information on Polperro and the 1841 census. Jane Robinson's father was Alexander, a servant.
James' father was John, a laborer. Jane lived on Queen St and James lived on Cannon St. when they got married. These streets I believe are very close. James was a mariner on his marriage recored in 1844. I believe he was away for a long time and their family didn't start until he gave that up and stayed in Devonport as a rigger.
Now the son, John, where my line comes through, I'm thinking went to Polperro to paint. Pictures of Polperro I found on line are beautiful. Usually they stay with someone so perhaps his Hawkins relatives lived there in Cornwall.
Now the John and Ann in 1841 who were not born in county and living on Queen St could be my relative. The only thing is from previous records is my James was born before John and Ann were married- John and Ann being married 25 Sep 1815 and James was born 8 Jan 1815. I know that happens.
This is all so interesting and I have more to go on.
Thank you all.
