Hi Listers!
Does anyone have a copy of the 1861 Devon census CD? I am trying to locate
my
William Giles, born Withiel, Cornwall in 1813. He is listed in Torquay in
the 1851 census
as a widower and laborer lodging at the Dolphin Inn in Torquay. In 1881
he appears in
the Newton Abbot workhouse, where he dies in 1883 according to the Free BMD
index.
Since all three records record him in the Registration District of Newton
Abbot, I am
hoping he remained there in the whole 20 year period. He and his brother,
John, were
originally farmers in Cornwall, with a considerably large pieces of land. I
am very
interested to see which profession he was practicing and with whom he was
living at
census time. Any help immensely appreciated.
Thank you all once again for the wonderful suggestions, internet sites, and
help you have
provided!
Nathan Giles
