Hullo Cindy

Personal checks can incur hefty bank charges (for the recipient)
depending on which bank, as I know to my cost.
It's worth asking about paying with a T.T. (Telegraphic Transfer)
as one can opt for paying the bank charges oneself, or for the
recipient to pay them or split the charges. This is how they used
to work, anyway! Ask your bank and the recipient.
A credit card payment, these days, is usually, but always,
acceptable.
A Sterling Traveller's Cheque is another option.
Cheers
Josi
