Hello I am new to the list and I am posting my interests. I am waiting for
confirmation in the form of a marriage certificate but I am certain that these
are the HORE/ LITTON familles below in 1851. William Hore aged 13 in the 1851
census below became a Master Mariner. He married in 1868 his wife was given in
the marriage entry as Susan Louisa Litton. It is a tradition in the family or
seems to be that the children's baptismal and marriage certificate names seem
to bear no recognition of their own name. Captain Hore's two Grandchildren
still living at age 87 and 89 certainly followed the same habit.  William Hore is
my Father's GGreat Grandfather and his daughter Maud Victoria Hore born
approx 1888 is sometimes given as Victoria Maud Hore was my husbands Grandmother.

In the book "West Country Harbour" by H.J.Trump
It mentions that the Mercantile Marine Superintendant at St John's  on the
17th February 1881 Thomas Lytton fell from the topsail yard and was drowned. I
have not established yet that Thomas Lytton was the deceased Husband of Louisa
Litton above. But it is a coincidence that he is deceased in the 1881 Census.

In his notes my Father in Law mentions that one of William Hore's sons gave a
painting of "The Countess of Devon" to the Council (I assume he meant
Teignmouth Council) The family returned to live at 68 Bitton Street, but the house is
no longer stainding.
If anyone is conected to theses families or has information we would be most
grateful if they would get in touch. If any one knows the where the paintin is
it would be nice to see it.
William Hore was Captain of the ships below. He owned shares in the S.R.AND
