Hi Ros, Sue & List
Have just seen the posting from Ros (with whom I have exchanged emails on my
'Taylor's Coaches' of Exeter).
I have an interest in BRIDLE'S but from Littleham, Exmouth.
My GGG grndfather was William BRIDLE (b abt 1793 Exmouth). In the 1851
census he is age 58, widower, mariner, & living in Chapel Street, Littleham
with two daughters, Elizabeth (age 25) & Caroline (age 20) both daughters
are single & lacemakers. Also in the family are a grand-daughter Mary Ann
(7) & a grandson Edwin (2), plus two sisters-in-law - Sarah (65) & Jane (58)
LONG both are single & lacemakers born in Exmouth.
The daughter Elizabeth is my GG grandmother and appears to be the mother of
both Mary Ann & Edwin (from their birth certificates is appears that both
children are illegitimate). A third child (also illegitimate) Elizabeth Jane
BRIDLE (b 27/05/1852 Exmouth) is my great grandmother. She married my great
grandfather, John Frederick TAYLOR (hence the Taylors Coaches connection).
He was the flyman who died in the Theatre Royal Fire on 5th Sept 1887.
I have researched the TAYLOR side quite comprehensively but the BRIDLE's are
proved a little elusive.
Any connections with your Otterton Bridle's ? Would love to hear from you
even if there is no obvious link.
