If there is no OPC for your parish who can do look-ups, you can purchase
Devon PRs, EXCEPT post 1837 marriages, on fiche from the Devon Record Office
for private use & study. All this can be done on-line by contacting the DRO
on First step is to request a copy of the microfiche
catalogue (MF catalogue) for your parish of interest. This will help you
decide which fiche to purchase. The catalogue is broken up into registers
which cover a particular period. You then ask for an estimate/order form
quoting the fiche you are interested in - for example MF 1-4 baptisms
1813-1888 for Parish X. The fiche cost 1.50GBP each. The catch is that you
must order an entire register for any particular period & there is an
additional charge of 5GBP per register which goes directly to the parish
council & must be paid in bank draft/cheque made out in GBP. It takes 4-6
weeks for the order to be delivered. If you are considering purchasing PR
fiche it would be great if you would also consider becoming an OPC for the
parish :-)
