Carol,

My grandfather's birth is recorded as Sept 1895 when I know he was born 11th
July 1895. He was not baptised in Sep 1895 either. He was baptised as a
child of 2 or 3. They also have a marriage date for my ancestors which is
out by 2 months.

The way the BMD index is created might help you. The index is cretaed from
the original General Register Office (GRO) indexes which are arranged by
quarters, so that entries for July, August and September are normally listed
as September but occassionally may be in the December quarter, but I can't
see anything that points this out to researchers. Unfortunately the GRO has
not allowed BMD (or anyone else) the same access to the original registers
as has happened in Scotland, where their registers have been available for
public inspection for a number of years. The White Paper on Civil
registration might change this if someone has space to store the "historic"
records (ie over 100 years old).

Hope this helps.

David
