Hi Vic,
I'm not really competent to answer your questions, but as nobody else seems
to have come to your aid I'll have a go.
Firstly the doctor's postnominal initials:
M.B = Bachelor of Medicine (gained in London in 1897)
M.R.C.S. = Member of the Royal College of Surgeons
L.R.C.P. = Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians
D.P.H.R.C.P.S. is one I can't crack - perhaps something like Diploma in
Public Health from the Royal College of ..... I don't know it's a tough
one!!
As far as I am aware medical doctors don't go to conventional universities -
they attend medical schools attached to universities or major hospitals,
therefore I imagine he obtained his M.B. at University College Hospital
London.
His career seems to have been:
After graduating he went overseas and started as the Government Medical
Officer in Chile later becoming Surgeon to the Nitrate Railway Company in
Iquique, which is on the coast, right at the northern end of the country,
where he became the Inspector of Sanitation Services before returning home
to London to take up the position of Assistant Medical Officer Westminster
Hospital, which I assume was a mental hospital as there is mention of the
Metropolitan Asylum Board. Finally he became the Resident Medical Officer in
Nottingham City Hospital.
I don't know if any of this is a help at all.
Regards
Brian
