Traditionally in England one of the three actual certificates is given to
the bride; the other two are in registers kept by the church (if that's
where you married). They are the ones with genuine signatures on them.

Each quarter someone (last quarter, it was me for our local churches) copies
out the details onto a similar certificate and (once the entries are
verified and signed by the "clerk in holy orders") that is sent off to the
local registrar. That copy eventually finds its way into the central
records, and if you order your own marriage certificate from the Family
Records Centre, it's a copy of that copy. (There may even be an
intermediate stage if the local registrar still has to copy the data sent to
him/her!)
