My greatgrandfather, who was in the R.N., was married in 1886 and on his marriage certificate it stated that he was living in Union St. East Stonehouse and his wife was listed as a "ballet girl".
I have been told that where he was living was in the "red light district" and that her occupation would have been a prostitute.
Could any listener tell me if this is true?

Thanking you,
