Hello List,
I am helping a friend in Australia who is trying to trace her mother-in-law's
family in late 19th / early 20th century England. This is a matter of some
urgency as Peggy (the mother-in-law) is elderly and very ill, and we would
dearly love to be able to find some information for her before it is too late.
Peggy had an uncle named Percy MITCHELL who preferred to be known as Robert
or Bob. He was born about 1890: place not known. The family had lived for
many years in Croydon, Surrey, but Peggy's mother (= Percy's sister) was born
in Portugal while the family were on tour as part of a troupe of skaters, and
it is quite possible that Percy was also born abroad or in a totally
different part of the UK.
In the early 1900's Percy/Bob owned a "nature retreat" in South Devon, of
which Peggy has a photo but no idea of the exact location. Apparently it was
a very well known place. Does anyone have any idea where it could have been
(maybe still exists), please?
Also, is there anyone researching the name MITCHELL who has got a Percy or
Robert/Bob in South Devon at about the right period ? If so, please get in
touch today!
Would be most grateful for any help offered. Thank you for reading this.
