Hallo New Members:

It is great to see you all posting your interests and here is a research
site that you will enjoy. There is much of interest in the Devon Quarter
Sessions ranging from contracts to crew lists to thefts to sacrament
certificates to bastardy cases, etc.

http://www.a2a.pro.gov.uk/default.htm

If you go there, click on Search a2a at the bottom of the page and on the
next page that comes up fill in a surname or place of interest and then
click on South West under English Region.

Up will come the number of hits in various documents. Click on one of them
and there will appear an abbreviated index of the items concerned. Then, if
you are interested in any of them, you can click on the red box at the top
that says Browse Full Text, and read the full document. Most of them take
a while to download, but mine have been well worth the wait. I just found
contracts for work on several bridges that my ancestor undertook and while
looking at other pages noticed sacrament certificates for Sir Francis Drake
and the theft of a pewter chamber pot from Antony Palmer of Barnstaple!

Best wishes, Joan
