Dear Bill,
Janice Webb stated that you have an interest in BEST in Plymouth. I wonder whether you can shed any light on the Mary Best, mentioned beneath.
My great, great grand parents William Thomas LEWTHWAITE (1787-1837), a caulker in HM Dockyard, and Sarah, nee TAYLOR (1792-1834) were married at Antony Parish Church on 26/04/1812. Both died of cholera leaving their only child, William Thomas James LEWTHWAITE (1827-1903) in the care of an aunt, Mary BEST. In the 1851 Census William LEWTHWAITE, Mary BEST and her daughter June, all lived at 32 Queen Street, Devonport (Morice Ward, St. Paul's Parish). Mary is 52, a widow and a needlewoman, and June is 22 and a dressmaker - both are recorded as being born in Devonport.
Any leads appreciated.
