Dear Jean-
Thanks so much for a great answer! I wasn't sure what they were referring
to as the "Exeter Library". So basically what I would get if I ordered the
microfilm "original" that the LDS has, is a photocopy of some one else's
interpretation of the original? I have purchased some fiche from the DRO
for towns that have no records at all in the IGI, but was wondering if I
looked at LDS films for towns that are on the IGI, what I would be getting.
I tried Shebbear microfilm and it was a copy of a typed transcript only.
Very disappointing...

> Hi Betsy,
> This message is really for everyone who uses the LDS films of Devon
parishes. Exeter Library means just that as these are all TRANSCRIPTIONS
made by the Devon and Cornwall Record Socty many years ago. These vols are
held in what used to be the Exeter City Library but which is now the West
Country Studies Library. To my certain knowledge NO original Devon parish
registers have been filmed (as yet!) by the LDS as presumably the Bishop or
whosoever has not given permission for this to be done. So--- as any good
genealogical how-to book will tell you, you still need to check the original
record. As I always tell people - with transcriptions you are at the mercy
of the transcriber.
