Even if a Records Office does not have a hireable Archivist the
R.O., like many Family History Societies, will often have a list of "persons
prepared to undertake reasearch".
It must be understood that the R.O. or F.H.S., by making such a list
available, is not making any guarantee about the quality of the work that
may be achieved by such persons, and actual fees are the subject of
agreement between the applicant and the researcher.
There are some very good amateurs in Devon who produce results for
about GB£7.00 per hour.
The constitution of this list does not permit them to advertise on
the List - but I am sure a mail to the effect "I need to hire a researcher
to do..." might result in a private reply which you would need to evaluate
whether suitable to your own needs.
I have no connection with any such researchers except as a
"satisfied customer".
