This is my first post to the Devon list and since the big reason for
these lists is answers, I have a question.
Having recently received my Grandmothers birth cert I find her mothers
maiden name is OXENHAM, Martha Louisa. There is no Martha Louisa listed
in 1881, there is however one Louisa M. So, unless my Gr Gran was 12 or
less when she married in 1893 this Louisa M. is, in ever likelihood my
Gr Gr Gran. age 14, born and living in Lambeth, Surrey.
Her parents and family are listed as follows:-
George S. OXENHAM b.1835 Brampton, Devon
Mary OXENHAM b. 1833 Brampton, Devon
Mary Jane OXENHAM b. 1860 Brampton, Devon
There is also a Joseph JUTSON living with them also b. Brampton, Devon.
After laying all this out so nicely here is my question.
Q/ The birthplace for the above (Brampton) as per 1881 census does not
seem to fit with anything I can find on the net, the closest I can find
is Bampton and feel that Bampton is the correct birth place name. Would
SKS please confirm this transcription error for me and perhaps tell me
of the parish in which Bampton resides.
Thanks very much for reading my first post and I hope to be able to
learn more of my ancestors through the Devon list, TTFN
