Hello there,
I'm a new subscriber to Devon Rootsweb - I've been a while with Dorset, as
most of my family associations are there, but I was wondering if anybody
could help me on a couple of pieces of research please?
1. Emma Tribbett Davey (b. 1853, Exeter) m. 1874 at Poole Weslyan Chapel
William George CRANE (my gt grandfather, who was a journeyman wheelwright at
that time). They lived for a time in Kent (Ashford), where a child was
born, Nellie in 1876. They returned to Poole in early 1877 and Emma died
soon after from complications following childbirth with TB.
She had a sister Elizabeth born 1851 Exeter St Mary Major and a brother,
William b. 1850 Exeter St John.
Their father was William Davey b. 1826 St Mary Major, a shoemaker in 1851
and their mother was Elizabeth Briand b. 1829 Exeter St John, a launderess
in 1851. There is some relationship with the family of Tribbett in this
generation, a branch of which also lived in Longfleet Poole and were
printers.
Their grandfather was another William Davey a joiner born 1798 Cornwall and
who died in 1857.
Can anybody help with the connection between the Tribbett and Davey family
or know anything at all about either family please?
2. A marriage between John CRANE, farmer of Child Okeford, Dorset and Mary
Hooper (heiress of William Hooper, a relative of the Earl of Shaftesbury) -
not found in Dorset, but should be around 1800- 1802, when both parties were
in their early 20's. They had several children, but one daughter 's birth
place and date has not been found: (1840 census for Piddletrenthide, Dorset
gives an age equivelent to 1806: Donna Catherine Matilda Hooper Crane - a
complext name for the period, and Donna is most uncommon in Dorset.
To be honest I'm trying all nighbouring counties for help.
Thank you for your time
Pam in Yeovil, Somerset
