Genealogy can be Multi-Dimensional

Genealogy can be as boring as names, dates and places. But, it can also be
as multi-dimensional as you want it to be.
It can be the study of Time and Place.
The social history, What was happening with the people? What was the time
like, war, peacetime, prosperity, or hard times?
Housing. How did they live?
Food. What did they eat and did they have enough to eat?
Clothing. What were their clothing like and the care of clothing?
Sanitation and Health. What was the sanitation like and due to the lack of
sanitation, as we know it, what diseases did people get? What problems did
the people have, childbirth, sickness, early death?
Medical. Home remedies, medical care was it primitive or was it in keeping
with the time and location? If so what was it like?
Topographical. What was the land like? Farms, Mines, Industry, Urban,
Rural, Accessibility (Roads, Railroads, Ships, etc.)
Economic. What did they do to make a living?
Laws and Law Enforcement. Were the Laws just or unjust? Did the punishment
fit the crime? What was the punishment for the different crimes?
Taxes. Were they reasonable or oppressive? Were they fair according to the
income?
Migration. Did people leave their homes for better standards of living?
Where did they go and for what reason?
History is not just what you learned in school it is also people living
each day to the best of their ability.
This is the tip of the Iceberg so to speak. Let your ancestors answer and
you will learn from them.

I hope this will add more questions and the answers will make your
ancestors more real and not just names, dates and places.
