Hello to the list...it's been a while since I last posted my interests and I have made great headway in my search so I thought I would repost what I have discovered in the continued search for Hancock descendants from Heandon Punchardon/Barnstaple, Devon, England.
My ggggrandparents George and Jane Hancock lived in West Ashford at the time of the 1841 census...they were both about 50 years old at the time. Their children William b. 1816, Hannah b.1819, and Joseph b. 1825 lived with them at the time. There is another sibling, Susanna, who was born about 1814 and married John Cutcliffe. I believe there may have been another son George, who was born in 1814 (Susanna's twin?) and died at the age of 17 in 1831...I also believe, but have not yet confirmed that George Sr. died in 1851, at which time his spouse Jane lived with her son William and his wife Emma and family in Headon Punchardon...Jane then lived with her daughter Susanna Cutcliffe in approx. 1861 in Ashford. My gggrandparents William and Emma and their children - William, Emma, George, Richard, James, John, Bessie, Charles, and Jane - all emigrated to Canada sometime in the 1870's, settling mainly in Ontario and British Columbia, although my great-grandfather Charles Hancock (b. 1864 in Atherington, Devon) settled in my province of Manitoba.
I am hoping to find other folks researching George and Jane Hancock and any other children they may have had...hoping there are other Hancock descendants out there somewhere!
Take good care and thanks for taking the time to read this rather lengthy note...
