Subject: EXETER THEATRE FIRE
Date: Mon, 22 May 2000 13:32:06 +0100

I deleted the message about the theatre fire and then remembered I have the
book 'Cavalcade by Candlelight' The story of Exeter's five theatres - 1735 -
1950, by Eric Delderfield. There's no mention of the Hill name in it, but a
long account of the fire in 1887 when 186 people died and the inquest. In
March 1889 a contract was made with Mr Dart a builder of Crediton to
reconstruct the theatre using the same shell of the building and it was
reopened on October 12th 1889.The authors sources include Trewman's Flying
Post which is held in the Westcountry Studies Library, Exeter on fiche, so
someone falling off a roof could be reported there too??

(Yes, Brian I'll do look-ups in it - published 1950 by Raleigh Press
Exmouth, 169 pages)
