Bonnie, Hi,
Yes ,Torquay does have a crematorium it is now under the control of Torbay
Council . It is located on Hele Road in Torquay. On one side of the road
there is the ordinary cemetery which dates back to the mid 1800's and was
opened, as a private enterprise by the Torquay Extra Mural Cemetery Co, when
the Church yard at Tor Parish church was declared full. On the other side of
Hele Road is the crematorium and garden of rest which is laid mainly to
lawn, and I believe the unconsecrated burials are on that site, as well ,
but on the other side of the hill. When the cemetery was originally opened
it was on the outskirts of the town , but now it's fairly built up around
it, even including some commercial and industrial premises close by.
For those who are interested the early burial record books are deposited in
the Devon Record Office in Exeter.
Regards
