The IGI does not stand for doom and gloom and believe that if you find just one piece of information then it is great.
I have for many years looked in vain at the IGI and found nothing of use.
Until last week when I failed to find a Birth entry for Rosa Dewberry - born about 1873 in the FRC indexes at St.Catherines House London.
I looked at the IGI and she was showing as being born in Chislehurst, Kent - I then contacted the Bromley Record Office and Suprise suprise they had the entry and the certificate.
So not only do you have to check the IGI - You have to double check Public Record Indexes
