Rootsweb doesn't accept attachments, just text, so I would guess that
you have a friend who had the same problem and he has inadvertently
passed it on to you the same way that you might have sent it on to
your friends.
Outlook, of one flavour or another, is usually the avenue the virus
writers use and I would suggest that you change to a
non-Microsoft/non-Eudora e-mail program to avoid these problems, for
the present at least.
