Can anyone help with this one? My g-g-g-grandmother, Sarah Porter lived in Ottery-St-Mary, born c.1812, had six children and never married. There is no father's name on any of the children's birth certificates.

Two questions - one, how can we find out who the father of my g-g-grandfather was? Two, although census returns say she was born in Ottery, there is no record of her, under the name of Porter in the parish registers.

Any advice, specific or more general would be appreciated. Thank you,
