Hello all:

I am new to the list and thought I should start by throwing my
surnames into the ring. They are EXTON and FORT. Although I have no
proof as yet that we hail from Devon, family lore says that my EXTON
branch came to Lancashire from Devon. This family worked as
wheelwrights in a yard in Brierfield, Lancs. The wife was called Mary
EXTON, who was a widow, and we don't know what her husband's name
was - nor do we know her maiden name. Their children were called
Ernest, Johnny, Rachel, Maggie, Jimmy, Francis, Annie and Ada EXTON.
Jimmy was my great grandfather. I have ordered the 1881 census on CD
and anxiously await its arrival. I am hoping to glean some info on
this family.
