Hi, Listers;

Of the Joseph STRINGER I’m researching (my g-g-grandfather), this I know
of him: that he was married to Elizabeth JANES in the fishing village of
Grates Cove, Newfoundland (now a province of Canada) in 1834; that in
Grates Cove he married a widow Eliza BINSON in 1854. In 1871, that
Eliza BINSON married a James DROVER, from which fact we may assume that
Joseph STRINGER had died. We may also assume that Joseph STRINGER to
have been born in the very early 1800’s or thereabouts.

According to our Maritime History Department at our largest university,
most of the fishermen (also referred to as planters) came to the Grates
Cove area of Newfoundland in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s from
Devon, Dorset, and Somerset.

Do we have any readers who can access passenger lists on fishing ships
that might have on board a Joseph STRINGER going to Canada in the
1825-33 period?

Would love to hear from you.
