I am currently in the process of tracing my English roots and keep running
into blocks! I am hoping someone out there can help me. I belong to both the
Devon and Cornwall Family History Societies, but to order documents from the
U.S. is costly, and so I'd like to make sure I have the right fact, the right
people, and as much information as I can to insure I am requesting the right
documents.
I'm trying to gather further information on a lady by the name of Jane
Wilcocks. The information I have on her so far is as follows -
She was born sometime in 1791 in Trusham, Devon.
She married a man by the name of Thomas Harris on August 5, 1810 in the
Chudleigh Parish Church.
They had at least two children - John Harris b. February 2, 1816 in Trusham,
Devon
and a daughter, Elizabeth who was born around 1825 in Trusham and who married
a man by the name of Philip Barbery.
The information about her daughter and son-in-law came from the 1851 census,
someone was kind enough to send to me. The information was as follows
1851 census Devon Village, Newton Abbott
Thomas Harris head marr 63 Thatcher born Chudleigh
Jane Harris wife 60 Trusham
Philip Barbery son/law 26 lead miner N.K. War ( I have no idea what N.K. War
means.
Eliz. Barbery dau 26 dressmaker Trusham
I'd never hear of a village named Newton Abbott, so that was interesting. I
would like to learn more about it. I would also like to learn more about this
family in general and Jane Wilcocks before her marriage in particular. I have
few details of her as it is, but I would love to learn more about her and the
Wilcocks family.
If anyone out there can help me, I would owe you my deepest gratitude!
My Thanks in Advance,
Tanya G. Kloesel
