At present we are all receiving multiple messages complaining about multiple
messages!!!

The SIMPLE answer for all these complainants is to subscribe to
instead of the simple DEVON-L. They will then be able
to look through alisting of the subjects in a listing and see which messages
are worth reading - and forget all the rest.
I admit this does assume that senders use meaningful subject headings (which
is far too often not the case) - BUT there is little use subscribing to a
list and then objecting to the messages you receive. Either like it or lump
it....

What I do find rather annoying are messages - which are clearly only meant
for one individual and give no indication of what subject is being replied
to - messages just saying "Thanks Carrol" or similar. However, the simplest
way to deal with this is either to send a private message to the originator
(making the sort of suggestions I have listed above) - or else just to
ignore it.... Sometimes these messages are due to the originator clicking
the wrong button by mistake - I have done it myself by mistake several
times - not all of us are prefect...

I *often* find interesting matter in some of the apparently "off-topic"
messages on these lists, so I feel there should generally be a more tolerant
attitude expressed to those who send apparently "off-topic" or *unnecessary*
messages.

Regards to all
