Dear Robert,
You asked about obtaining a copy of
"Widecombe in the Moor - a Pictorial History of a Dartmoor
Village" [published by Devon Books, 1996, limited edn of
500], by Stephen H Woods. I bought my copy in 1997 in
Exeter at Waterstones (one of a chain of Waterstones
bookshops in Britain) which has a good section on current
Devon publications, but since the edition was limited to
500 and a number were subscribed for, before publication, I
guess it could be sold out by now.
Perhaps someone else on this list who is familiar with
obtaining hard to get books may be able to suggest a new or
second-hand bookshop who will provide this service in
Devon/for books on Devon? Because I don't live in Exeter
any more I cannot advise or find out easily.
I am not sure if the publisher, Devon Books, can help
you at all. They have a fax no: [overseas code]+1884-243325
telephone no: [overseas code]+1884-243242
their address is: Halsgrove House
Lower Moor Way
Tiverton, Devon EX16 6SS, UK
They are associated with the Devon County Council, the
local governing body for [much of] Devon. Devon Books have
a Webpage listing their currently available published
books, which may be interesting to others as it includes a
lot of local history type books ; they do not take orders
over the Internet, but one can print off an order form from
the webpage for each book required, and post it.
Webpage address:
http://www.devon-cc.gov.uk/tourism/devnbook/homepage
This is one of the webpages accessed through the Devon
County Council homepage - Webpage address:
http://www.devon-cc.gov.uk,
through which webpages giving general information on
specific Devon towns, the Devon Record Office, Westcountry
Studies Library, Devon Family History Society etc can be
accessed,
Hope this helps a little
