Family lore had it that my gggrandfather who was born, lived and died in
Pontypool, Monmouthshire had been a ship's captain who married a girl
from Bideford.

In later life he was a blacksmith and I suspect the bit about ship's
captain was elaboration but he did marry, in Pontypool, in 1852 a girl
from Bideford. Her parents had died there in 1848 and 1850 respectively.

Can anyone suggest records which might show what ships were trading
between South Wales and North Devon circa 1850?
