Hi All:

Vicki generously responded to my request for a volunteer to run a DEVON
mailing list a little while ago. I'm pleased to see how it is developing.
My personal Devon interests are centred on Clovelly, and in particular the
RANDELLs, who were there from at least the late 16th century to about 1800.
(Other Clovelly names of interest to me include MUMFORD, WHITEFIELD,
HAMLYN.) I'm also trying to track down a Mary Ann DUNN, believed to have
been born about 1830 in the Barnstaple area.
More generally, I look after the Devon pages of GENUKI, the UK & Ireland
Genealogical Information Service, which you can find at
http://www.cs.newcastle.ac.uk/genuki/DEV
I have a few people helping me with these pages, but there is certainly
room for more! For example there are already pages for all the Devon
parishes, but not surprisingly those that have been developed with the aid
of people who have been researching in the particular parish are much more
informative than those that just provide such standard information as we
have been able to assemble.
One major area of Devon that my forebears seem to have studiously avoided
is Exeter - I'd be delighted to find someone who was wiling to take over
further devolpment of this secion of GENUKI/DEV. More generally, I'd
welcome additional transcriptions and indexes - I find it mildly galling
that the GENUKI pages for Northumberland and Durham, i.e. where I live (but
where I have no genealogy interests) have between them some hundreds of
parish register transcriptions in GENUKI now! :-)
Cheers
Brian Randell
PS By the way, I hope everyone who has responded to the suggestion that we
introduce ourselves has submitted their surname interests to the Devon
Surnames list that Ronald Branscombe runs - you'll find details in the
GENUKI Devon pages under Genealogy.
