Yes, all types of roofing materials were certainly used,
but the Danish word for thatched roof is -
- 'stråtag' (strå/tag - i.e. 'straw roof')* -
and in the old days they used straw from whatever
material locally available. In most grain growing
areas the straw left from the grain harvest was used.
Marsh reeds were only available in limited areas,
but grain straw was available almost everywhere
in the olden days country Denmark.

Yes - today it is mainly the more durable marsh reeds
that is used, but having a thatched roof today, is mainly
a fashion statement! (and a fire insurers nightmare!)

*Stråtag = thatched roof . - for reference see:
Gyldendals Red, Routledge Danish-English dicts.
