Deed. 2-Feb-1770. HENRY GARRETSON of Christiana Hd. in County of New
Castle, yeoman, and Mary his wife, and Dr. John McKinley, esq. of the
Borough of Wilmington in sd. Hun. and Co., for the sum of 70 pounds, 18,
shilling, 9 pence, grant unto James Latimer, Esq., of Newport in sd. Hd.
and Co., merchant, a piece of land containing 17 acres, 30 perches,
situate in sd. Hd. and Co. It bounds the lands of John Ball, sd.
Garretson and land formerly of Anthony Cadman (now of sd James Latimer).
This is a part of a larger tract that Peter Garretson was seized of a
tract of; and by is deed of Mortgage, dated 18-an-1764
(Book/W:fol/309), confirmed sd land unto sd John McKinley; with a
condition that same should be redeemable upon performing stipulations.
Then sd Peter Garretson, by his deed dated 30-Jan-1764 (Book/W:fol/230),
confirming sd tract of land (under incumbrance of Mortgage), unto his
son afsd Henry
Garretson. Evan Rice Attny. Signed Henry Garritson [sic], Mary
Garrison [sic] (mark), Jno McKinly [sic]. Wit: David Bush, Andrew Neper,
Nicholas Robinson, Henry Hiland. Rec: 16 Jan-1772 (Z1-286)


Deed. 29-Aug.-1770. John Garretson of Christiana Hundred, in County of
New Castle, yeoman, and Eleanor his wife, for the sum of 500 pounds
sold unto James Latimer, Esq. of Newport in sd Hd. & Co., merchant, a
tract of land and plantation containing 184 acres and 64 perches,
situate in sd Hd. & Co. It bounds the lands of William Derrickson,
Henry Vining, Conrad Gray, Peter Garretson, Thomas Montgomery and
Charles Robinson. This is whereas HENRY GARRETSON, SR., late of sd.
Hd., dec'd., in his lifetime was seized of sundry pieces of land situate
in sd. Hd. & Co. In his last will dated 24 Oct. 1721, he bequethed sd.
land among his four sons (viz.) John, HENRY [Jr.], Garret, and sd. Peter
Garretson. Then sd John, one of the sons, died leaving no issue, and sd
Henry, another son, also died leaving issue to survive him. Conrad
Garretson, the oldest son and heir of sd. Henry, and afsd Garret and
Peter Garretson mutually agreed to divide lands & premises among
themselves. Whereas sd Conrad and Mary his wife, Peter and Sarah his
wife, by their Release dated 16 May 1747 (Lib/P:pp399) confirmed part of
sd. land unto sd Garret. Whereas John Twiggs, Sr., late of Mill Creek
Hundred in sd. County, decc'd and Eleanor his wife, in Right of his
wife, was seized of a piece of land adjoining to sd Release tract. Then
sd Garet Garretson, so seized of two tracts, made his Last Will dated 21
Jan 1755, and bequeathed sd. Land Plantation unto his son, afsd John
Garretson. Signed John Garrison [sic], Elinor Garrison (mark). Wit:
John McCallmony, William Broom, Andrew Neper. Evan Rice impowered
Attny. Rec: 27-June-1771. (Z1:p167).

(Bible was bought of John Porter in the Year of our Lord 1776. It was
last known to be in the possession of R. D. Herdman, Dover, Delaware.
John Herdman lived in White Clay Road, New Castle County, Delaware.)

John Herdman and Mary Garretson were married February 4, 1800, by the
Rev. Mr. Reed of Wilmington.

Births:
John Herdman was born Sept. 29, 1739.
Eleanor Hamilton my [his] wife was born Oct. 15, 1743.
John Herdman was born Dec. 2, 1769.
Mary Garretson, his wife, was born Dec. 23, 1780.
Jefferson Herdman was born Dec. 3, 1800.
John Herdman was born March 10, 1803.
Garretson Herdman was born October 10, 1807.
Beckley and William Herdman, twin brothers, were born Jan. 23, 1810.
Beckley a few minutes the ouldest [sic].
James Lawrence Herdman was born Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1816 about half after
five o'clock in the morning.
George Cox was born Feb. 1, 1822.

Deaths
John Herdman departed this life Jan. 26, 1791, it being the 52 year of
his age.
Eleanor Herdman departed this life May 5, 1829, being 85 years, 7 months
of age at her Decease.
Garretson Herdman departed this life March 7, 1818.
James Lawrence Herdman departed this life Aug. 14, 1818 in the evening
about 11 o'clock.
John Herdman departed this life Jan. 24, 1832, being 62 years and seven
weeks old on the day of his death.

wife, having consent of parents, 27/11/1783.
