Hello Listers,

I hope you have been lucky and missed becoming infected with the latest
series if virus attacks. It seems to me that maybe some of you have had
these problems. I say so because of the nature of bounced addresses I have
been receiving.

The latest round of infections seem to pick up addresses from address books
in the infected computers for mass mail outs; and what seems to be unique
in these infections is that they use the same list of addresses to randomly
pick a return address as well. For this reason I want to make a
suggestion. I realize it will cause you a little more effort to post to
the list, but if we all remove the address from our address books and type
it in each time we post, that would cut down on the opportunity for the
pesky mass mailer worms, etc. to post to the list.

I have responsibility for 4 lists and try to keep the bounces to a
minimum. This keeps the lists running better than they would be if
hundreds and even thousands of bogus messages that must be filtered dragged
them down from the list. These bogus posts are sent to me. It becomes
quite a chore for me to determine which are subscribers bounces or just
mail caused by a virus or worm, etc.

Thank you for your cooperation and interest in genealogy,

Dean Crocker, List Admin.
