Dear List member,
John James McLaughlin, born 1810 and Isabel A Rolston, born 1810, along
with their children, Matilda, born1832
Elizabeth 1834
John James(2) 1836
Isabella 1838
William 1840
arrived in St John, New Brunswick, Canada, probably in spring 1842. They
originally came from Omagh in Co Tyrone. They kept a store in St John for a
couple of years, then moved up the Bay of Fundy coast to Alma area, Albert
Co, where they settled. Isabel died in 1843. I have the above dates from
the NB census of 1851, which also listed the family religion as Church of
England (Ireland).
John James(1) died in 1907. Family lore says that John James was a baker in
Ireland while Isabel's family were gentry. I have a picture of her which
was taken in Ireland probably around 1830.
I have just started trying to trace connections in N. Ireland and would
appreciate hearing from anyone working on these family names. I have
recently joined the N Ireland Family History Society and ordered the book
"Tombstones of Omey" so hopefully will find some leads.
Cheers, Phyllis McLaughlin Dale
