I found the following in the archived messages of this list posted in 1997.
It is from Miscellaneous Curtises in Saratoga Co., NY, Notes of Harlow D.
Curtis, State Library in Albany.
The 1790 census of Saratoga Co Ny shows a John Curtis 3-0-3. The John Curtis
[brother of Elijah of Saratoga Co.], b. Apr 19, 1748 who went to Canada is
thought to have lived a short time in Saratoga Co., and this may be he. The
Clark School House Cemetery in Edinburgh has the grave of his nephew:
Johnson Curtis, d. June 9, 1820, ae. 27-7-17, he was s/o Robert [6] and
Jerusha [Wright] Curtis etc. nad this same cemetery has Joseph Curtis, d.
Oct 19, 1865, ae. 69-10-0, and this may be brother of Johnson although his
birth is not in the CT records as Johnson's is, but there is room for him in
the list of children. There is no probate record of this Joseph and it is
queer he could have lived so long without leaving a record unless he died
single.
Does anyone have any info on this family? I am descended from John's
brother, Elijah. Elijah & John are sons of James Curtis & Keziah Crowfoot.
Elijah's daughters, Sarah Johanna Curtis English (wife of Robert) & Mary
Sabrina Polly Curtis Gilbert (wife of Ezra) lived in Leeds Co., Ontario,
Canada and Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Would also appreciate info on The
Clark School House Cemetery in Edinburgh. Is this in Canada?
Thank you,
Michele Colson
