Surname: COVENTRY, TRETHEWEY
-------------------------
I'm seeking info about the ancestry of William Trethewey who m. Elizabeth
Coventry about 1840, possible in or near Roche in co. Cornwall.
The parish record of Roche should be available as their TRETHEWEY children
are listed in the IGI as having been baptized there as follows:
i. William, bp. 31 July 1842;
ii. Christiana, bp. 5 Nov. 1843;
iii. Richard, bp. 12 Mar. 1848;
iv. Elizabeth Ann, bp. 10 Jan. 1850 - d. 1892 in Duluth. MN, USA (She is
my 2nd Great grandmother);
v. James, bp. 26 Nov. 1851;
vi. Ellen Ann, bp. 5 May 1859;
vii. Jane, bp. 14 Jan. 1862.
The family migrated to America (USA via Canada) c. 1866. The family were
hard rock miners and settled in the Houghton-Hancock area of Upper Michigan
where they worked in the copper mines.
I received info from "Joan in Colorado" that there are a couple with this
surname from the 1856 Post Office Directory of Roche.
The population in 1851 was only 1,863 and it is likely that they are related
JOHN TRETHEWEY, Farmer, Tresayes, Roche
WILLIAM TRETHEWEY, Miller, Tremudlot, Roche
This is probably the William Trethewey that I'm looking for, but I cannot
find either Tresayes or Tremudlot in "Great Britain Road Atlas" that I
use as a Bible for my English research!
Any suggestions for me to pursue to obtain info about the ancestry of William
and Elizabeth (Coventry) Trethewey would be appreciated.
