I am led to believe that William and John were related, either father
and son, or brothers because here is what info I could find on the
formations of the townships of Smith and Hanover in Washington Co:

On the east [Hanover] is bounded by Robinson and Smith townships, and on
the south by Smith and Jefferson township

I couldn't find a map, but definetly sounds like that would have been an
easy migration.
